This day in history - August 22nd

An interesting #thisdayinhistory today starts with a couple of #firstflights. In 1973 it was the turn of the Learjet 35,

with the Shorts SD330 exactly a year later.

The 80’s was a bad year for aviation pioneers with James Smith McDonnell, the American aircraft manufacturer, passing away in 1980 at the age of 81.

Then in 1989 Alexander Yakovlev also dies, aged 84.

Staying in the ex Soviet Union and the bonus event for blog viewers, 1990 saw Volga-Dnepr Airlines established going on to start operations in Oct 1991.

Find out loads more information of aircraft first flights with my book!
